Popping is a dynamic street dance style pioneered by “Boogaloo Sam” in Fresno, California, during the late 1960s and 1970s. This iconic dance technique involves quickly contracting and relaxing muscles to create sharp, rhythmic movements known as pops or hits.

As one of the foundational funk and street dance styles, popping is deeply intertwined with hip-hop culture, embodying the energy and creativity of its roots.

Inspired by Fresno’s rich hip-hop narrative, Lauren Rose designed the Poppin’ Hat to celebrate this cultural legacy. Whether you’re a graffiti artist, MC, DJ, or dancer—B-boy, B-girl, locker, or popper—this hat represents the essence of hip-hop style and expression.

The design features an embroidered “My Style Poppin’” logo, underscoring the connection between hip-hop and fashion—a bond that has always been symbiotic. The flat-brim hat includes a printed underside and an attached bandana at the back, making it a bold throwback to classic streetwear.
